Danger Duvall - Space/Time Adventurer
What would you do if you could travel through time?
When Danger Duvall, lands in the heart of your community and gives you a mission to save your future, will you join her in her quest?
Will you be your own hero?
Danger Duvall - Space/Time Adventurer is a unique interactive and immersive experience for young people aged 8-12y.o, a "choose your own adventure" style performance that invites you to think, create and collaborate while using different creative mediums to express yourself (drama, dance, music, writing, crafts, film). Danger Duvall is no ordinary time traveller, she's passionate about making things right especially as she is often the cause of what went wrong...but she will need your help to do that, she can't all do it on her own! Follow her through timelines but be careful not to disrupt too much the space/time continuum otherwise you might be stuck in time forever...
Inspired by 90's and 80's games and pop culture with a retro futuristic aesthetics, Danger encourages young people to reflect on issues of their times (environment & sustainability, politics & expression of ideas, technology & society) while giving them a platform to have their own opinions heard and seen by grown ups.
The concept for Danger Duvall was born during the first lockdown when all social, educational and entertaining interactions moved solely online and therefore pushed people to become very passive spectators of their own lives. Jen McGregor and Marion Geoffray wanted to create a performance for young people, away from their adults and giving them the power to be active behind their screen in their home and perhaps change a bit their own world...
The project received a grant from YTAS that enabled Jen and Marion to develop the project properly in person during the summer 2021 and collaborate with film-maker Lucas Chih-Peng Kao. The project also received support from Imaginate in order to test the ideas and rehearse with young people in schools. The first performance of "Danger Duvall: Space/Time Adventurer - A Creative Revolution" took place in the gardens of North Edinburgh Arts Centre on 1st July 2021 followed by a performance at Whale Arts Centre on 4th July. The first version of the project was loosely inspired by the French Revolution and aimed at empowering young people in their community to make a change with creative tools, become more politically aware, express their views with more confidence and reflect on their relationships to social media. It was a big success, the young people filmed their experiences from their point of view with the support of Lucas and he made a "mockumentary" with the footage from both performances that was screened online on Bastille Day, 14th July.
We are now looking at expanding Danger Duvall's universe and delving into other topics for performances and touring models.
